Nearly 40 years ago, Theismann’s Restaurant and Bar opened its doors to a crowd “hungry” for a place like Theismann’s. One of the first restaurant-bars in Virginia, it became popular for friendly service, great food and a comfortable good time. Joe Theismann was new to town and a third string quarterback, but his name on the door drew in those early patrons. The food, service, character and comfort brought them back…again and again. Since then, chain restaurants with stamped out menus and prescribed service tried to dominate. “Sports bars” with limited menus and loud spaces proliferated and then fizzled. Joe’s quarterback career ended, but the restaurant survived time and competition. Menu items are prepared fresh. The staff is friendly and attentive. The patrons are pleased. Theismann’s concept and camaraderie have had staying power. Theismann’s continued to evolve, staying aware of what the crowd “hungers” for today. It is on the cutting edge of TV technology, but scores high for an exceptional dining experience. Offerings range from Mahi over Lobster Risotto and Shallot Blue Cheese topped Filet to entree salads, wings and nachos. Prices include the full meal with sides. Reservations show tables for one to luncheons for one hundred. Theismann’s bridges the gap between pricier, stuffy places and pre-fab food fast casual. There is a loyal following of regular daily customers, visiting tourists, celebrities, local workers and residents. Stop in for happy hour or book a rehearsal dinner. Become a regular as so many have.
